Amazing and Unbelievable facts about Books

Hello Everyone ! I am back again with a new blog which will enhance your knowledge and I am sure you will surely be compelled to read it till the end. It is about some facts of books which I am sure very few know about. So don't just scroll down but make sure to read it thoroughly. I had read about these facts in TINKLE- TELL ME WHY (Books that shaped the World). Since the time, the first printing press was invented by Johannes Gutenberg some amazing books have been written. Here are a few of them.

1. A book written with an eyelid - Can you think of someone who has written a book by blinking his eyelid? Yes, and its Jean Dominique Bauby. He had  a stroke that put him into a coma. He woke up after 20 days and only some movement in his head and eyes remained. Then, he started writing a book. An assistant would read out alphabets and Bauby would blink his left eyelid to show his choice. Every word took about 2,00,000 blinks. This book is 'The Diving Bell and the Butterfly' and it became an instant hit.

2. The Birds of America - It was written by John James Audubon in the year 1920. It is a rare book containing illustrations of 435 birds drawn and printed by Audubon himself.

3. Youngest person to publish a book - Dorothy Strait was only 4 years old when she wrote the book 'How the World Began' in 1962. It was published in 1964. She had written the book for her grandmother, and her parents loved it so much that they sent it to the publisher.

4. The Fastest selling book - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows written by J.K Rowling sold more than 8.3 million copies in the 24 hours following its release in the USA. It also had the biggest initial print run of 15 million copies.

5. A book with no verbs - Can you imagine a novel that does not contain any verbs ? It may seem impossible but French author Michel Thaler published a 233 page novel 'Le Train de Nulle Part' or 'The Nowhere Train' which has no verbs.

6. A book with no 'E' - The novel 'Gadsby' by Ernest Vincent has 50,000 words but not a single word has the letter 'E' in it.

7. A book of a  million poems - The Book of a Million Poems was written by the French poet Raymond Queneau. It has only 10 pages with 14 lines on each page. Every single page is cut into strips, containing a sonnet. These can be read combining fragments at your personal will. Any line from the sonnet can be combined with any line giving a million different poems. Isn't it unbelievable?

 8. One of the best expensive books - 'The Task' by Tomas Alexander Hartmann has only 13 pages but is priced at 153 million Euros. It is so because the book answers some fundamental questions of humankind in less than 300 sentences.

9. The Mother of all Recipes - The first volume of recipes was published in 62 AD by the Roman Apicius. Titled 'De Re Coquinaria' it described the feasts enjoyed by the Emperor Claudius.

10. The Largest Atlas - The Klencke Atlas, which stands at 1.78 by 1.05 metres when open, was recognized as the world's largest Atlas. However, ' Earth Platinum' published in 2012 surpassed it and became the world's largest atlas. It is 6 ft. × 4.5 ft. (1.8 m × 1.4 m).
